We'll admit, this cheesy mac caused a biiiiit of debate with our Malty friends! When we asked you if glittering mac n' cheese is up your alley on our Instagram stories, half of you said "Bring on the glitter!" The other half of you were a little nervous about bedazzling your pasta. Whichever team you're on (#TeamGlitter or #TeamTraditional!), you can still make this dish! We glammed it up, but you can make it sparkle-free and still enjoy its fabulous taste.
We added healthy turmeric for a burst of yellow color and nutritional yeast for a protein boost, but those additions are totally optional, too. Do what feels right for you and your little ones! Cook 16 oz of macaroni according to package directions.
(If you can find whole wheat mac, even better! 😍)
Melt 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Stir in 1/4 cup whole wheat flour until thick, then slowly incorporate 2 cups of milk.
Add 1 Tbsp nutritional yeast and 1 tsp turmeric.
Stir in 2 cups shredded cheese (we used a Mexican blend!) until melty. If desired, season with a pinch of salt.
Combine with pasta and serve!
If you'd like, add a little edible glitter 🙃🌟
